Description

The EMG 85 active pickup offers a sophisticated and well-rounded tone that sets it apart from its famous brother, the EMG 81. Featuring two Alnico V magnet loaded coils with a wide aperture, this pickup maintains a beefy low end and a fatter top end for a full, natural sound. It provides a muscular growl and smooth leads that work for everything from blues to extreme metal. While frequently used in the neck position, the EMG 85 also sounds great as a bridge humbucker due to its exceptional smoothness and soul. It is an ideal choice for rhythm and blues players because it delivers high output without becoming muddy. For a classic setup, pair it with an EMG 81 in the bridge, the same combination used by Zakk Wylde. This pickup pairs well with almost every other humbucker in the EMG line.
