Description

Explore a historic collection of mathematical problems in the second edition of The Scottish Book by Birkhauser. This volume updates and expands upon the original 1981 publication, serving as a record of informal discussions held by mathematicians at the Scottish Cafe in Lwow, Poland, during the interwar period. The text captures the work of many leaders in fields such as functional and real analysis, group theory, measure and set theory, probability, and topology. Since World War II, mathematicians have worked to find solutions to these proposed problems, with prizes offered for successful results. This book provides a unique look into the history of mathematical thought and remains a significant resource for those studying advanced algebra and mathematical analysis.
