Eric Ravilious: 100 Curated Artworks Eric Ravilious was a British painter, designer, and printmaker whose work offers a precise and quietly distinctive vision of the English landscape. Born in 1903 in London and raised in Sussex, he developed an artistic language grounded in observation, structure, and restraint, shaped by both his training and his deep familiarity with rural and coastal environments. Educated at the Royal College of Art, Ravilious was associated with a generation of artists who explored landscape through clarity rather than expression. His work centres on the English countryside, coastal settings, and everyday objects, rendered with careful balance and measured control. Human presence is often indirect, suggested through traces rather than figures. His paintings are characterised by clean structure, subtle colour, and a composed stillness. Soft tonal ranges and controlled compositions replace dramatic contrast, creating images that feel both familiar and quietly removed. Rather than emphasising emotion, Ravilious presents scenes with a calm exactness that allows their underlying atmosphere to emerge gradually. Eric Ravilious: 100 Curated Artworks presents a considered selection of his work, offering a focused view of his artistic development and his contribution to twentieth century British art. Part of the My Private Art Gallery series, this volume presents his paintings with careful digital restoration and a thoughtful gallery style format. The aim is to recreate the experience of viewing paintings slowly and attentively, much like walking through a quiet gallery.
