Description

Oxygen – the elixir of life for fish: Fish absorb oxygen from the water through their gills, but some also through their skin or additional respiratory organs. For this purpose, there should always be at least 5 mg/l of oxygen (O2) in the water. This can be easily measured with an oxygen test (JBL PROAQUATEST O2). The lowest oxygen content is always measured in the morning. Oxygen is introduced into the aquarium water by air pumps with air stones or by the water return from the filter, which moves the water surface. Aquatic plants only produce oxygen during the lighting phase – at night, however, they consume some oxygen. Therefore, an air pump should be connected at night in heavily planted aquariums. Additional aeration is also recommended when using many medications. This is also advisable for many anti-algae agents. Topic: Oxygen – CO2 addition: If you supply your aquatic plants with carbon dioxide, which is essential for plant life, using a CO2 fertiliser system, you should only use an air pump during the day if it is absolutely necessary (O2 content below 5 mg/l). Otherwise, the air stone will expel the added CO2, similar to shaking a bottle of cola. This air pump has electronic controls (large knurled wheel for the total air volume) and two individual mechanical rotary controls to regulate the two air outlets separately. Directions CE-compliant, powerful: 400 l/h air flow rate – electronically adjustable with > 140 mbar air pressure at only 5 W power consumption, check valve to prevent water back flow into the pump
