Interpreting Horoscopes: An Integrated Approach From Vedic Astrology

A horoscope, also known as natal chart or birth chart is a chart or diagram that represents various aspects of human life based on the position of planets at the time of birth. A horoscopre, natal chart or birth chart is prepared by calculating the ascendant and position of planets at the time of one's birth. Starting from ascendant, it has twelve houses that represent different aspects of human life. Kundali is a term for chart in Nepali and Hindi glossary. So, Janma kundali or lagna kundali is the term for horoscope or birth chart in Nepali and Hindi glossary. Jataka Parijata by Vaidyanatha Dikshita, Chapter 16, Sloka 2 states that nothing in the world compares to a horoscope in terms of assisting men in acquiring wealth, saving them like a boat in a sea of trouble, and serving as a guide on their journeys.By this verse, horoscopes are important for guiding a native through life though there are no scientific studies to prove the accuracy of horoscopes between the life events of individuals and the position of planets at the moment of their birth but the fact of correlation between the life events of individuals and the position of planets at the time of their birth is evident by the effects of solar radiation on all including living beings on earth. Due consideration to the rules or principles of interpreting horoscopes laid down by Vedic sages and daivajna is indispensable in interpreting horoscopes. And this text has endeavored to incorporate those principles with due reference to those texts embodying those principles or rules. Planetary significations, strength, auspiciousness, qualities, and dominance are all important considerations when interpreting the horoscopes. In Vedic astrology, there are several principles used to analyze planetary strength, auspiciousness, qualities, and dominance. An attempt has been made to incorporate these principles from various eminent Vedic astrology texts into a sequence for interpreting a horoscope in this text. Thus, Vedic astrology principles drawn from various eminent texts are incorporated to make them useful for horoscope interpretation. Due consideration has been made to bring exact if not the closer meaning of these Sankrit texts while translating into English but Sanskrit texts have not been presented in this book to make this text not lengthy. There are fourteen chapters in this book. These chapters detail on the horoscopes, planetary significations, planetary strength, planetary auspiciousness, planetary qualities, planetary dominance, combining planetary strength, planetary auspiciousness and planetary dominance in horoscopes, houses/bhavas in horoscopes, rules for interpreting houses in horosscopes, interpretation of twelve houses in horoscopes, female horoscopy, fructification of houses in horoscopes, dashas periods in horoscopes and finally remedial measures of effects in horoscopes. This book is thought to be useful for astrology enthusiasts, beginners, and researchers. The various calculations on planets and houses have not been detailed in this book because there are numerous software programs available to make such calculations simple. So, important principles from eminent texts on Vedic astrology for the systematic interpretation of horoscopes have been incorporated in this book in a sequential manner. These principles have been widely acknowledged in this work, making them useful in interpreting the horoscopes.
