Description

Discover the enchanting world of Raphael Kirchner, born in Wien in 1875, and passing away prematurely in New York at just 42 years old in 1917. The Viennese illustrator left an indelible mark in the world of illustrated postcards: hecreated a unique and captivating visual universe that continues to enchant collectors and art enthusiasts. The book, an essential reference for Kirchner collectors, stands out for its meticulous cataloging of Kirchner's postcards, organized by series and divided into three distinct periods of his career. The work is the result of the passion of the authors - Pia and Antonio Dell'Aquila - as collectors of postcards for about 50 years, and Kirchner's postcards in particular, and scholars of his work. In 1996 they published the first edition of this catalogue, "Raphael Kirchner and his postcards", which has become a point of reference for postcard collectors all over the world. In this expanded and updated hardcover edition you willd find: A detailed biography of Kirchner's life and career Full-color illustrations of all known postcards Rarity index for each series, linked to postcard values Information on issue dates, editions, and unique characteristics Insights into the events that inspired specific series Details on the use of Kirchner's images in other media With the surge of interest in vintage postcards fueled by the internet age, this detailed and reasoned catalogue proves to be an indispensable tool for distinguishing the rarest and most valuable specimens from the more common ones, and is an indispensable guide for collectors and sellers.
