Description

In October 1945 shortly after World War II, Tom Smith heard a child weeping as he walked with rowdy fellow American soldiers through the bombed-out ruins of Frankfurt, Germany. Tom, 19, saw a frightened little girl up ahead hugging the thin waist of a bigger person. Tom lifted his gaze and beheld the sad, pretty face of Anna Schulz, a strong, courageous 18-year-old German girl responsible for her little brother and sisters. That’s how their romance began. Anna and Tom were a match made in heaven. Their young, happy love was true. But in the chaos of postwar Germany their sweet, coming-of-age love story took a cruel, gut-wrenching twist that should have never happened. Tom was devastated. In July 2000, Tom returns to Germany chaperoned by his two grandchildren—the jokester Michael Billingham, 21, and Michael's thoughtful, spiritual 18-year-old cousin Jennifer Smith. After the trio’s plane lands in Hamburg, Michael declares their objective: “We are on a mission of love.” For Tom, the 10-day mission is going to be an emotional, heroic journey into the past in search of what he lost 55 years before. But he won’t succeed unless he learns how to lift mountains.
