3-Way 8″ near field monitor with coaxial midrange/tweeter As a further development of the successful LP-8, the IN-8 features the same sophisticated bass reflex system and the same level stable woofer. Instead of the usual tweeter with 3D imaging waveguides, however, a coaxial midrange-tweeter combination was installed. The profile-optimised 4″ midrange driver also functions as a waveguide. By limiting the peak excursion to 1 mm, intermodulation distortions that otherwise occur in coaxial systems could be avoided. The midrange driver also relieves the woofer and tweeter, so the IN-8 plays more harmonically and distortion-free than conventional 2-way studio monitors. The crossover frequency of the woofer is 330 Hz, making the IN-8 an acoustic point source. Phase cancellations on the vertical axis will be looked for in vain. Instead, the IN-8 has an even dispersion pattern over the entire frequency response with excellent bass staggering and localization. The stereo image also benefits from the coaxial arrangement and allows a detailed mix.
