Description

Schubert lieder for discerning musicians. The New Schubert Edition is the only scholarly-critical edition that will, once completed, include Franz Schubert's lieder in their entirety. In response to the rising expectations of performers and listeners alike, all the lieder will be published over the next few years in performing editions containing the text of Walther Dürr, the eminent Schubert scholar and former Managing Editor of the New Schubert Edition. Walther Dürr , one of the world’s most distinguished Schubert scholars, now continues his new Urtext edition of Schubert’s lieder with the second volume for high, medium, and low voice, adding forty-six further lieder with the definitive texts from the “New Schubert Edition” and the composer’s original groupings. The volume contains not only such well-known lieder as Die Forelle and Der Alpenjäger, but two of Schubert’s smaller song cycles: the Mignon Lieder from Goethe’s Wilhelm Meister and the songs from Sir Walter Scott’s Lady of the Lake. Especially useful to performers are the alternative versions reproduced for several of the lieder, allowing seemingly familiar works to appear in a new light. The edition also takes the practical side of music-making into account. The larger size of its volumes guarantees a spacious and uncluttered appearance on the page. A detailed preface by Walther Dürr recounts the genesis and transmission of each lied and outlines its source materials. - Includes the definitive musical text from the New Schubert Edition - Newly engraved with a spacious appearance and larger format (23 x 30 cm) - Editorial decisions and conflicting readings from main sources are now identified in this performing edition - Introduction by Walther Dürr focuses on peculiarities in the genesis and performance history of each lied and provides solid information on performance practice - Complete transposition into three vocal registers finally allows every singer to work with the latest findings of Schubert scholarship - Includes English translations of the lieder texts by Richard Wigmore - The edition is scheduled to consists of 13 volumes. Each volume will appear in three editions; one for high voice, one for middle voice and one for low voice. - Contents: Ariette aus "Rosamunde", Op.26 D 797; Suleika II, Op.31 D 717; Die Forelle, Op.32 D 550; Der zürnenden Diana, Op.36,1 D 707; Nachtstück, Op.36,2 D 672; Der Pilgrim, Op.37,1 D 794; Der Alpenjäger, Op.37,2 D 588; Der Liedler, Op.38 D 209; Sehnsucht, Op.39 D 636; Der Einsame, Op.41 D 800; Die junge Nonne, Op.43,1 D 828; Nacht und Träume, Op.43,2 D 827; An die untergehende Sonne, Op.44 D 457; Gesänge aus Sir Walter Scotts "Fräulein vom See" Op.52; Ellens Gesang, Op.52,1 D 837; Ellens gesang II, Op.52,2 D 838; Normans Gesang, Op.52,5 D 846; Ellens Gesang III: Hymne an die Jungfrau, Op.52,6 D 839; Lied des gefangenen Jägers, Op.52,7 D 843; Willkommen und Abschied, Op.56,1 D 767; An die Leier, Op.56,2 D 737; Im Haine, Op.56,3 D 738; Der Schmetterling, Op.57,1 D 633; Die Berge, Op.57,2 D 634; An den Mond, Op.57,3 D 193; Hectors Abschied, Op.58,1 D 312; An Emma, Op.56,2 D 113; Des Mädchens Klage, Op.58,3 D 191; Du liebst mich nicht, op.59,1 D 756; Dass sie hier gewesen!, op.59,2 D 775; Du bist die Ruh, Op.59,3 D 776; Lachen und Weinen, Op.59,4 D 777; Greisengesang, Op.60,1 D 778; Dithyrambe, Op.60,2 D 801; Gesänge aus "Wilhelm Meister", Op.62 D 877; Mignon und der Harfner, Lied der Mignon; Lied eines Schiffers an die Dioskuren, Op.65,1 D 360; Der Wanderer, Op.65,2 D 649; Heliopolis I, Op.65,3 D 753; Der Wachtelschlag, Op.68 D 742; Drang in die Ferne, Op.71 D 770; Auf dem Wasser zu singen, Op.72 D 774; Die Rose, Op.73 D 745; Das Heimweh, Op.79,1 D 851; Die Allmacht, Op.79,2 D 852
