Pentax eyepieces Powerful wide angle eyepieces for use with high quality spotting scopes. Pentax responds to two demands with the new XF eyepieces: The first requirement came from many users of binocular approaches, who unfortunately cannot use the excellent XW eyepieces for this application, because the required eye relief due to the eyepiece width of at least 61 mm simply cannot be achieved by many users. The other requirement to be met was determined by the deflation-shaken market. Citizens always have less money in their pockets. These eyepieces are affordable for a wide layer of buyers without sacrificing quality. So what was closer to meeting these demands by launching the new eyepieces together with the newly developed PF-65ED and EDa spotting scopes? The SMC Pentax XF eyepieces were designed to achieve maximum sharpness, transmission, contrast, as well as avoiding optical imaging errors such as distortion at the edge of the image and a comfortable operation reminiscent of the XW eyepieces. The use of special ED lenses (Lanthanum), the blackening of the entire interior and all lens edges to avoid reflections was just as standard as the innovative technology of partial coating of the cemented glass air surfaces. For example, in the design of the sliding, rubberised eyecups against cold shock and scratches, the synergy effects that were gained in the production of binoculars were used.
