Boccherini: Seven (7) Symphonies

This 2CD set on the Chandos label brings together performances of seven symphonies by the composer Boccherini. Although not immediately well know as a symphonist, this collection is a welcome addition as a record of the music of the late 18th century. Boccherini's symphonic style can be described as more decorative than his contemporaries, but nonetheless worthwhile and pleasant on the ear. Adrian Shepherd conducts Catilena which is the modern instrument ensemble he founded in 1970.
