From June 27 1941 this war erased, like a hurricane, most of the Jewish communities in the Baltic area, in Galicia, in Belorussia and in Ukraine, with hundreds of thousands of victims. There are some places where apocalyptic slaughters were perpetrated by the German police during the summer of 1941 and this book looks at them in detail. Dozens of massacres perpetrated by the German Ordnungspolizei on the Eastern Front have been examined in-depth. The context, the perpetrators and the victims are described in detail plus an attempt to explain 'the why'. Given the complex dynamics that led to the criminal behaviour of hundreds of thousands of ordinary men, a multi-disciplinary approach has been taken, using psychological, social, philosophical and religious contributions.
