Description

During the eighteen hundred century the Family Grill was very much engaged in exporting from and importing into Sweden. The Swedish East India Company´s activity was one of their spheres of interest, all from delivery ships and cargoes to acting as directors of the Company to buy wares imported from China and sell those within Europe. To secure a positive progress, the family was careful to, as far as possible, keep the activity within the family, with people that married into the family and with close friends. In this way they covered the family’s most important trading center – Stockholm, Gothenburg, Amsterdam, London, Sebutal in Portugal and Canton in China. This of course made it also easy to have a pretty large scale import, intended to remain within the family. About the Author The author, Swedish Airforce Colonel (Övlt mst) Cleive Hornstrand, spent the last eight years researching the Grill family Porcelain and published the first edition of the book “The Family Grill East Indian Porcelain” in 2013. The book summarizes his research and is written in both English and Swedish to reach a broader audience. Colonel Hornstrand’s interest in the Grill family porcelain comes from his 60 years marriage to Charlotte Hornstrand (née Grill, from Godegård). Colonel and Mrs. Hornstrand actively collected Grill family porcelain for over 40 years and recently donated a large portion of their Grill porcelain collection to the Nordic Museum in Stockholm. Colonel Hornstrand retired in 1993 from the Royal Swedish Air Force with 35 years of active duty, and after that he spent 12 years as Head of Administration, (Human Resources and Campus facilities) of the Swedish Armed Forces National Defense College, later managing the Armed Forces National Defense College Foundation real estate in Stockholm (700+ apartments and a Hotel). Colonel Hornstrand attended the Armed Forces National Defense College several times throughout his military career and also has a Law degree from Stockholm University specializing in international Law of War and Human Rights. Colonel Hornstrand is a subject matter expert and lecturer in the subject of Law of Armed Conflict versus Human Rights Law in Sweden, San Remo, Italy and Geneva, Switzerland. Colonel Hornstrand has 3 children, 8 grand children, and 5 great grand children and resides with his wife Charlotte near the ocean in Stockholm, Sweden.
