La M.V.S.N. fu un vero e proprio esercito, su base volontaria, divenendo la quarta Forza Armata dello Stato. Oggi è di fatto un esercito dimenticato nonostante le innumerevoli prove di valore e di sacrificio testimoniate in oltre vent’anni di storia. Pesano su questa “damnatio memoriae” la connotazione politica della Milizia, definita la “Guardia armata della Rivoluzione”, e l’essere stato il principale strumento, secondo la definizione stessa di Mussolini, che consentì di trasformare un governo in un regime. Ad oltre settant’anni da quegli avvenimenti, sopite le esasperazioni e le strumentalizzazione di parte, alla Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale dev’essere giustamente riconosciuto un proprio ruolo nella storia militare italiana testimoniato dagli oltre 14000 suoi caduti, da 20 ordini militari di Savoia e da 37 ricompense al valore ai labari di legioni di CC.NN., oltre a 90 medaglie d’oro, 1232 d’argento, 2421 di bronzo e da 3658 croci di guerra al valor militare meritate dalle camicie nere in Libia, in Africa orientale, in Spagna e sui fronti del secondo conflitto mondiale.
