O rabanete (Raphanus sativus L.) é um tubérculo popular em todo o mundo, cultivado pelas suas raízes carnudas comestíveis, que são consumidas cruas em saladas ou cozinhadas como legume, sendo rico em cálcio, potássio, fósforo e vitamina C. Existem muitas cultivares de rabanete com características diversas em diferentes partes do país. Esses genótipos foram recolhidos em diferentes regiões do país. É necessário conhecer as características quantitativas e qualitativas detalhadas desses genótipos, com vista ao melhoramento do rendimento e de outras características desejáveis, e formular recomendações específicas para gerar evidências científicas relativamente à maior adequação de determinada variedade a um método de sementeira específico. Por conseguinte, o presente estudo foi realizado para avaliar o desempenho de diferentes variedades e métodos de sementeira do rabanete, tendo em vista que tais informações ajudariam na seleção de genótipos para novas variedades e no planeamento de um programa de melhoramento genético eficaz para o aperfeiçoamento da cultura. A partir dos resultados do estudo, pode concluir-se que a variedade Pusa Rashmi foi a mais excelente na sementeira em linha em canteiro plano no que diz respeito ao crescimento, rendimento e atributos de qualidade, tendo, em última análise, revolucionado a proeminência dos produtores de rabanete.
