La observación de la ceremonia de la dote fang revela el papel esencial o principal que desempeñan los Mbi Ntum, a los que asociamos con el ámbito de la comunicación oral. En las secuencias interactivas que componen las etapas del ritual, ponen en práctica el uso de la comunicación oral basada en el discurso verbal y no verbal. Los tipos de discurso movilizados aquí forman parte del modelo africano y son reproducidos por los actores en escena durante las secuencias ritualizadas de la dote. Para responder a la pregunta de cómo se lleva a cabo la dote entre los Fang, se hizo necesario explorar la base misma de la práctica del habla, la forma en que los Fang ritualizan la comunicación durante la dote y cómo se ha llevado a cabo este ritual durante generaciones. Se observaron varias formas de habla inherentes a esta singular situación de comunicación, basadas esencialmente en el papel desempeñado por el Mbi Ntum.
