Die Untersuchung von George B. de Andrade befasst sich eingehend mit der Wiedervereinigung, die die Welt mitten im Kalten Krieg schockierte, zwischen den beiden Giganten, die den politischen, ideologischen und wirtschaftlichen Gegensatz zueinander darstellten: die Wiedervereinigung zwischen der Hegemonialmacht des Systems (USA), dem führenden Land des liberal-demokratischen Kapitalismus, und auf der anderen Seite, dem kommunistischen China von Mao Zedong. Durch die Erläuterung des historischen Kontextes der Annäherung, der politischen Nuancen im Zusammenhang mit der Wiedervereinigung und, neben anderen Theorien, der Theorie des offensiven Realismus von John Mearsheimer, schafft der Autor ein Kaleidoskop, das die chinesisch-amerikanische Annäherung nach mehr als zwanzig (20) Jahren des diplomatischen Bruchs und der politischen Uneinigkeit aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln erklärt (weshalb es sich um eine dreiteilige Studie handelt).
