Poucos pesquisadores se dedicaram a entender o reatamento sino-americano no fim da década de 1960 e início da década de 1970 sob um prisma tripartido, em seu viés histórico, político e teórico. A pesquisa de George B.de Andrade, empreende um estudo aprofundado sobre o reencontro que chocou o mundo, em plena Guerra Fria, entre os dois gigantes que representavam a oposição política, ideológica e econômica um do outro, o reatamento entre a potência hegemônica do sistema (EUA), país líder do capitalismo democrático-liberal e do outro lado, a China comunista de Mao Tsé-tung. Explicando o contexto histórico do reatamento, as nuances políticas que envolveram o reencontro e veiculando entre outras teorias, a Teoria do Realismo Ofensivo de John Mearsheimer, o autor compõe um caleidoscópio que explica, sob diversos ângulos (por isso um estudo tripartido), o reatamento sino-americano depois de mais de vinte (20) anos de rompimento diplomático e dissensões políticas. Ao contrário do que muitos pensam, a obra desmitifica a ideia de que a abertura chinesa para a reinserção internacional da China começou no período de Deng Xiaoping, mas mostra que a inflexão internacional da China começa com Mao.
