Die Verwendung von Heilpflanzen bei der Behandlung von Krankheiten ist eine Praxis, die in Mosambik seit jeher genutzt wird und weit verbreitet ist. Ätherische Öle sind komplexe Mischungen sekundärer Stoffwechselprodukte, die aus verschiedenen Pflanzenteilen isoliert werden. Aufgrund der zunehmenden Verwendung dieser aromatischen Verbindungen wurden Forschungsarbeiten durchgeführt, die zur Entwicklung neuer Produkte geführt haben. In Anbetracht der häufigen Verwendung aromatischer Pflanzen haben wir diese Studie mit dem Ziel durchgeführt, die antimikrobielle Aktivität und die chemische Zusammensetzung ätherischer Öle aus getrockneten Blättern der Arten Cymbopogom citratus, Lantana camara, Lippia javanica, Ocimum americanum, Ocimum basilicum und Plectranthus sp. zu bewerten, einer Gruppe von Pflanzen, die in der Volksmedizin im Bezirk Montepuez weit verbreitet sind. Die ätherischen Öle wurden durch Hydrodestillation in einem Clevenger-Gerät extrahiert. Die ätherischen Öle, die gegen die drei verwendeten Mikroorganismen aktiv waren, waren Cymbopogom citratus, Lippia javanica, Ocimum americanum und Ocimum basilicum. Die Klassen der Sekundärmetaboliten wurden mit Gaschromatographie und Massenspektrometrie nachgewiesen.
