L'objectif de cet article est d'analyser les affrontements entre les généraux Gustavo Leigh et Augusto Pinochet, en offrant une nouvelle perspective sur les conflits entre les personnages. Ces conflits s'inscrivent dans le cadre de la confrontation entre différents projets politiques autoritaires qui ont contesté leur réalisation au cours du gouvernement dictatorial au Chili, depuis son instauration en 1973 jusqu'en 1978. Comme ces projets s'inscrivaient dans un conflit politique, ils se sont affrontés dans les secteurs les plus divers de la société. Les restaurateurs et les refondateurs, qui comprenaient à la fois des civils et des militaires, étaient dirigés respectivement par les généraux Leigh et Pinochet. La principale confrontation entre les groupes a eu lieu au sein de la Commission Ortúzar, car la nouvelle constitution politique était chargée de façonner le projet autoritaire qui remportait le concours.
