En el Chile de 1958 a 1973 se vivió momentos convulsionados social y políticamente, llegando a ser extremadamente ideologizados. Sin embargo el Estado y la Iglesia Católica romana tuvieron un trato diplomático y cordial bajo la carta fundamental de 1925 que había dejado separados los poderes civil y eclesiástico y los religiosos en general. Los tiempos no fueron peores, ni mejores que en otras épocas. No obstante probó la calidad de seres humanos que habían en cada sector de la ciudadanía y de esta Iglesia. Los tiempos y gobiernos de turno por momentos fueron a veces según las acciones vistos desde la autoridad eclesiástica como mejores o peores según la doctrina católica. A su vez los gobiernos tenían también su propia agenda y postura ante las necesidades sociales y políticas del país. Es de considerar que la Historia se sigue reconstruyendo en la medida que surgen documentos y voces, en la tradición oral también que señalan, reafirman o desmitifican hechos, personajes, acciones encubiertas y afines. No está descartada, en este caso, conocer a futuro nuevas revelaciones en las relaciones del Estado y la Iglesia Católica romana en Chile en este periodo como en otros.
