Ce livre a évalué de manière critique le concept de théorie de la guerre juste de Thomas d'Aquin tel qu'il est contenu dans son ouvrage magnum, la Summa Theologica, publié au XIIIe siècle. Il a exploré la légitimité et la justification de la guerre, principalement en relation avec la tradition de la guerre juste et comment elle pourrait servir de panacée à la guerre dans la société humaine contemporaine. Les points de vue de certains universitaires ont été mis en avant afin d’acquérir une formation intellectuelle et un cadre sur le sujet. Selon l'étude, le concept de guerre juste proviendrait des mots latins « bellum iustum », qui désignent une doctrine ou une tradition d'éthique militaire étudiée par les chefs militaires, les théologiens, les éthiciens et les décideurs politiques. Il fait référence à un ensemble de règles visant à garantir des pratiques justes en temps de guerre. Thomas d'Aquin recommande trois principes qui devraient garantir des pratiques justes en temps de guerre. Il s’agit d’une autorité légitime, d’une cause juste et d’une intention juste.L’auteur soutient que la tradition de la guerre juste constitue un système inadéquat et imparfait permettant de juger si une guerre est juste ou injuste dans la société humaine contemporaine.
