Los estudios sobre la salud de los adolescentes en la región de Volta han examinado diversos temas, como la planificación familiar, los abortos inseguros, el embarazo adolescente y los factores determinantes de la actividad sexual precoz, entre otros. Sin embargo, hasta la fecha existen muy pocas pruebas empíricas sobre los retos psicosociales que afrontan las adolescentes embarazadas. Comprender la naturaleza y el alcance de los retos psicológicos que rodean al embarazo adolescente ayudará a fundamentar las políticas y las intervenciones psicosociales adecuadas para mejorar la salud de las adolescentes embarazadas. El objetivo del estudio era examinar los retos psicosociales de las adolescentes embarazadas y describir las causas del embarazo adolescente en el municipio de Ho. Se trató de un estudio cualitativo exploratorio basado en un centro de salud que utilizó un enfoque narrativo y fenomenológico. Se utilizó la técnica de Entrevista en Profundidad (IDI) para recoger información de adolescentes embarazadas (10-19 años) que accedían a la atención sanitaria en los Hospitales Regionales de Volta y Municipal de Ho. Se utilizó el muestreo intencional con la técnica de variación máxima. Las entrevistadas fueron incluidas en función de su aceptabilidad, disposición a participar y a proporcionar información para este estudio.
