Description

Women are the vital infrastructure and their empowerment would hasten the pace of social development. Individually, a poor woman tends to be erratic and uncertain in her behaviour. Group membership soothes such rough edges making her more reliable. The Self Help Groups are a viable alternative in achieving the objectives of women empowerment in terms of social, economic, psychological, health, cultural and political empowerment. SHGs have begun to make a significant contribution in poverty elevation and empowerment of poor, especially women in rural areas of our country. The SHGs working in Junagadh district also play a vital role for empowering the women in all dimensions. So, for measuring the Socio Psychological Impact of SHG on its members, the study was carried out in total nine villages and from each village ten SHG and ten Non SHG members were selected. Thus, total 180 respondents (90 SHG members +90 Non SHG members) were selected for the study.
