Es wurde befürchtet, dass die Landwirte Futterrationen aus lokal verfügbaren Futterzutaten in beliebigen Anteilen mischen und sich oft nicht über deren Qualität, Kosten und Auswirkungen von Nährstoffungleichgewichten auf die Leistung der Tiere bewusst sind. Diese Studie wurde in privaten städtischen und stadtnahen Milchproduktionssystemen in der Umgebung von Holetta durchgeführt, um die bestehenden Futterrezepturen und Fütterungspraktiken für gekreuzte Milchkühe im Hinblick auf die Nährstoffversorgung zu bewerten, die Lücke in Bezug auf die empfohlenen erforderlichen Nährstoffe zu ermitteln, die Leistungen der gekreuzten Milchkühe zu beurteilen und die wirtschaftliche Rentabilität von Kraftfutter zu bewerten. Mit Hilfe eines strukturierten Fragebogens und einer Laboranalyse für selbst gemischtes Kraftfutter wurden Daten von insgesamt 60 Milchviehbetrieben erhoben. Die Laboranalysen ergaben, dass der Gesamtmittelwert der Nährstoffgehalte von selbst gemischtem Kraftfutter 216,58±20,86 g/kg TM Rohprotein, 10,99±0,59 MJ/kg TM metabolisierbare Energie, 4,55±1,23 g/kg TM Kalzium und 10,16±1,16 g/kg TM Phosphor betrug und sich signifikant (P<0,05) zwischen städtischen und stadtnahen Produktionssystemen unterschied.
