The work is devoted to the study of the development of everyday speech etiquette as a functional-semantic universal on the material of the Russian and English languages. The relevance of the topic is determined by the exceptional importance of etiquette in communication and insufficient development of the problem of speech etiquette. It is known that etiquette has a bright national specificity associated with the uniqueness of customary speech behavior, customs, rituals, non-verbal communication and ways of development of different peoples, societies, etc. In addition, speech etiquette has a diverse content, which depends on a variety of reasons, both linguistic and extralinguistic properties. The components of this content need to be systematized, which, in turn, will allow tracing the ways and means of development of speech etiquette in time and the nature of its functioning in space.
