L’industrialisation de l’aviculture s’accompagnait d’une augmentation considérable des niveaux de production, et ce grâce à la maîtrise des techniques d’élevage et au respect des exigences des souches génétiquement sélectionnées et élevées dans un environnement artificiel. Cependant, les paramètres constituant cet environnement peuvent, en cas d’une mauvaise maîtrise, favoriser le développement des divers troubles sanitaires et se répercuter sur la productivité des oiseaux. Parmi les maladies les plus fréquemment observées suite à un dérèglement de l’un des facteurs de l’ambiance, les pathologies respiratoires. En effet, tous les paramètres composant l’environnement de vie des animaux sont en interaction complexe avec tout l’organisme, et notamment le système respiratoire et immunitaire. Ces interactions s’accompagnent souvent d’un lourd impact économique. L’étude des principales affections à prédominance respiratoire montre la diversité des étiologies. Le contrôle des troubles respiratoires chez les volailles doit s’inscrire dans le cadre d’une stratégie intégrée, basée sur les protocoles thérapeutiques raisonnés, la biosécurité et la vaccination contre les pathogènes viraux.
