Description
La caña de azúcar es un cultivo que agota los nutrientes y de larga duración. Debido al cultivo intensivo de caña de azúcar en la zona industrial, la contaminación por nitratos es un problema para los recursos de aguas subterráneas en Bihar. El nitrato no tiene sabor ni olor en el agua y sólo puede detectarse mediante pruebas químicas. Bihar es uno de los estados con zonas de agricultura intensiva, especialmente de caña de azúcar. Se realizó un estudio para evaluar el potencial de lixiviación de nitrato-nitrógeno a través del perfil del suelo y su contaminación en las aguas subterráneas en función de las propiedades del suelo y las actividades agrícolas en las zonas de cultivo de caña de azúcar, donde se aplicaron fertilizantes nitrogenados de forma intensiva años tras años. También se estimaron los efectos de la aplicación intensiva de nitrógeno en la calidad de la caña de azúcar. Se recogió un total de 64 muestras de suelo de cuatro profundidades diferentes, 16 muestras de caña de azúcar y 24 muestras de aguas subterráneas y 8 de aguas superficiales. En las muestras de suelo se analizaron las características físico-químicas y el nitrógeno nítrico, mientras que en el zumo de caña se analizaron el brix, la sacarosa, la pureza y el CCS, y en las muestras de agua, el pH, la CE, la carga de NO3-N y la concentración iónica. Los lactantes y bebés que viven en los alrededores de la zona corren riesgos sanitarios por el NO3- al beber agua de los pozos.
