Description

Where there is no peace there is no progress. In other words live and let live. Broadly speaking agriculture involves rising of crops and rearing of livestock. Even though, the two are mutually exclusive on the same land but God has made it in such a way that one cannot survive without the other. From time immemorial the crop farmer and the livestock herder co-exist with little intrusion and very high level of tolerance. Today the story is different. The level of intolerance between the farmer and the herder has reached an alarming stage globally. The book titled Farmer-Herder Conflicts in Western Zone of Bauchi State; Nigeria has come at the right time. The content has addressed the causes and effects of farmer-herder conflicts, socio-economic characteristics and their relationship with conflict occurrence. The author also exposes readers to the role of Extension workers in conflicts resolution vis-a-vis the effectiveness of various resolution strategies. He finally capped it with the common obstacles to conflict resolutions. The book should not have come at a better time than now when the issue has been politicized and taken a wider dimension. Prof. N. Murtala ATBU, Bauchi
