En Afrique, les valeurs traditionnelles et les barrières culturelles affaiblissent le niveau d'activité des services de la Planification Familiale (PF) (OMS, 2008). Sur les 1,6 milliards de femmes en union qu'abritent les pays en développement, 214 millions d'entre elles n'utilisent pas une méthode contraceptive moderne (OMS, 2015). Au Cameroun, 91% des femmes rurales en union n'utilisent pas la contraception moderne contre 79% en milieu urbain. Ce taux varie à l'intérieur des aires culturelles (INS, 2011). Face au niveau élevé de non recours à la contraception moderne en milieu rural et compte tenu de la quasi absence de travaux portant sur l'explication de la non-utilisation de la contraception moderne en milieu rural d'un point de vue culturel, notre étude se propose de répondre à la question de savoir : Quelles sont les facteurs explicatifs des disparités géoculturelles du non-recours à la contraception moderne des femmes en union au Cameroun rural? De l' analyse explicative, il ressort que l'attitude du conjoint face à la PF est le premier facteur de non-utilisation de la contraception moderne en milieu rural. La variable aire culturelle occupe le 4e rang sur les 9 facteurs.
