La compétence en intervention sociale d’intérêt collectif (ISIC) est apparue dans la formation et la définition du métier d’assistant de service social à l’occasion de la réforme du diplôme de 2004. Cet objet d’étude s’impose rapidement comme objet de représentation sociale du fait essentiellement des confusions que sa définition suscite. Notre enquête montre que la relation duelle n’est pas autant valorisée que nous le supposions. Bien au contraire, elle se trouve bien souvent affublée des qualificatifs les plus négatifs dans les discours et les articles. Ainsi, le groupe professionnel des assistants sociaux contribue à transmettre un savoir naïf sur l’ISIC. Nous sommes tentés de conclure que la transmission de l’ISIC demeurera impossible tant que cet objet d’étude n’aura pas acquis de statut plus scientifique. Ainsi nous proposons quelques pistes pour améliorer la formation à l’intervention collective. Public cible : travailleurs sociaux, étudiants en sciences humaines et en travail social, formateurs
