Description

Product Description This book offers a comprehensive view of the perceptions of end-users in different Information Systems Development (ISD) methods and approaches. It offers conceptualizations that serve as key constructs for theory development in information systems science. From the Back Cover Modern society has been transformed by the digital convergence towards a future where technologies embed themselves into the fabric of everyday life. This ongoing merging of social and technological infrastructures provides and necessitates new possibilities to renovate past notions, models and methods of information systems development that accommodates humans as actors within the infrastructure. This shift introduces new possibilities for information systems designers to fulfill more and more everyday functions, and to enhance their value and worth to the user. Reframing Humans in Information Systems Development aims to reframe the phenomenon of human-centered development of information systems by connecting scientific constructs produced within the field of information systems which has recently provided a plethora of multidisciplinary user views, without explicitly defining clear constructs that serve the IS field in particular. IS researchers, practitioners and students would benefit from Reframing Humans in Information Systems Development as the book provides a comprehensive view to various human-centered development methods and approaches. The representatives of the fields of Human-Computer Interaction and Computer Supported Collaborative Work will also find this book an excellent resource. A theoretical handbook and collection of practical experiences, are included along with critical discussions of the utilization methods in ISD and their implications with some interconnecting commentary viewpoints. About the Author Hannakaisa Isomäki (Ph.D., Information Systems, Tampere University, 2002) is Research Director and an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology, Jyväskylä University, Finland. She also holds an Adjunct Professorship at the University of Lapland, Faculty of Arts & Design. Her research interests intersect topics of Human-centred Information Systems, User Experience, E-learning, and Information Security Culture. She has authored several compilation works and published over 80 research articles such as publications in Information Systems Journal, International Journal of Technology Human Interaction and Australasian Journal of Educational Technology. She has also been involved in many national and international scientific evaluation tasks. Samuli Pekkola (Ph.D., Information Systems, University of Jyväskylä, 2003) is Professor of Information and Knowledge Management at Tampere University of Technology, Finland, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Oulu, Finland. His research focuses on individual users in different manifestations of information systems, information systems management, and around participatory information systems development methods. His main research interests include MIS, OSS for public sector, ISD, PD, CSCW, HCI and enterprise architectures. His research has been published in journals such as The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Organizational and End-user Computing, British Journal of Educational Technology, and Journal of Network and Computer Applications. He is the Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems.
