The main objective of this booklet is to help educate the Somalis in Diaspora who believe that calling someone ‘WARYAA’ to get his attention is an insult, uneducated and rude. As a matter of fact, it is the identity marker of one being a Somali. It is the Somalis’ mother tongue. It’s symbolically interchangeable with the Somali identity, Somali culture and Somali language. This booklet has been written as a result of the testimony that I had seen the withering of ‘WARYAA’ from the Somali youth born or brought up in Diaspora. They are completely disconnected from their ancestral root of ‘WARYAA’. Many Somalis in Diaspora will find in this booklet many things that contradict their beliefs of ‘WARYAA’ as being a respect phrase rather than a vulgar term. In reading this booklet, however, many Westernized Somali youth along with their parents will realize the mistake made by abandoning their Somali identity, and hopefully will come back and embrace it. Many of them, however, will blindly abandon it and continue to assimilate into the dominant culture, and seek a false identity.
