Jaume II d'Aragó i Ferran IV de Castella organitzaren en 1309 una croada contra l'emirat nassarita de Granada que comportà el setge simultani d'Algesires, per part dels castellans, i d'Almeria, per part dels aragonesos. En aquesta obra s'aborda l'estudi del finançament de la campanya mampresa per Jaume II, tot aprofitant la rica i diversa documentació conservada a l'Arxiu de la Corona d'Aragó. Així, a banda de la transcripció íntegra d'un registre de la Cancelleria reial que inclou l'estimació dels cavalls presentats per les diverses companyies que conformaren la host, es procedeix a aprofundir en els aspectes materials, fiscals i financers de la croada. Alhora, aquesta aproximació econòmica ofereix una visió més detallada de la successió dels fets i una nova valoració del conjunt d'esdeveniments.
