Im Prolog (1,14,16) erzählt Matthäus von der Herkunft Jesu Christi und nimmt dabei bereits wesentliche Merkmale seines Wirkens in den Blick. Unter den Vorfahren Jesu Christi werden in 1,216 Tamar, Rahab, Rut und Josef besonders hervorgehoben (1,3.5².16). Diese gelten nach biblischer Überlieferung als barmherzig und gerecht. Im Verborgenen zeigt sich damit bereits hier, dass Jesus Christus ab 4,17 durch seine Zuwendung zu den Kranken, Sündern und Hungernden die göttliche Forderung nach Barmherzigkeit erfüllen wird (9,13; 12,7; 23,23). Sein Handeln steht dabei im Kontrast zum Verhalten der drei Könige David, Herodes und Archelaos, die sich als schlechte ""Hirten"" des Volkes erweisen und darin das Wirken der jüdischen Autoritäten vorwegnehmen. /In the prologue (1,14,16) Mathew explains the roots (γένεσις) of Jesus Christ and hence highlights important characteristics of his works. Among his ancestors (1,216) he specially focuses on Tamar, Rahab, Rut and Joseph (1,3.5².16). According to the Bible they are merciful and righteous. Here, it becomes clear that Jesus Christs devotion towards the sick, sinners and starving (4,17 et seq) will fulfil the divine demand for mercy (9,13; 12,7; 23,23). His deeds contradict the behaviour of the three Kings David, Herodes and Archelaos, who proved to be bad shepherds of the people and thus hindered the works of the Jewish authorities.
