L’accès aux traitements antirétroviraux dans les pays en développement a été facilité grâce à des programmes de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS), du Fonds Mondial International (FMI) et du « President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief » (PEPFAR). Dès lors, les ARV sont devenus gratuits dans plusieurs pays en développement comme le Mali, permettant ainsi leur utilisation accrue. Cependant, il est connu qu’une large utilisation des ARV est associée à l’émergence de la résistance. La majorité des infections à VIH en Afrique sont causées par les sous-types non-B. Cependant, plusieurs études suggèrent que les sous-types non-B et B ont des profils différents de mutations de résistance aux ARV. Ce livre traite le problème d’une large utilisation des ARV dans les pays en développement, l’émergence de la résistance et les profils mutationnels associés.
