The institutionalisation and the coordination of foreign subsidiaries are central tasks of the management of multinational corporations (MNC). The author describes the theoretical foundation for both fields, analyses previous empirical findings and derives hypotheses. Based on the configurational approach, successful patterns of the use of coordination mechanisms and institutional arrangements, depending on the role of a foreign subsidiary for the MNU and depending on the external context, are identified and presented. The book adresses researchers and students in international business, management, and organizational theory as well as managers in international companies.
