As the 1990s progess, China is emerging as an economic giant. The World Bank expects that it will become the world's largest economy early in the next century. This is largely due to the fact that China presently enjoys the largest amount of foreign direct investment among developing countries, and is generally perceived as the next "big thing" in international business circles. The ten chapters in this book illustrate aspects of China's path to internationalization. They also raise questions which still require further clarification and study. What becomes clear is that to succeed in China's sometimes harsh business environment, foreign business strategists need to be better informed of the type of challenges China presents. The contributors, from the USA, Europe and Hong Kong, address: the strategic issues facing international firms in China; the challenge of managing international enterprise in China; and the international activities of Chinese firms.
