Die vorliegende Studie stellt die bisher umfangreichste quantitative Spannungsanalyse einer Filmgeschichte dar. In einer praxisorientierten Einführung werden erstmalig die Grundlagen der neuen mikrodramaturgischen Analysemethodik beschrieben. Anhand einer exemplarischen Analyse des Animationsfilms Ice Age 3 auf tieferen Skalenbereichen der Erzählstruktur bestätigt sich das genreunabhängige Funktionieren der untersuchten Erzählstrategien. Die Studie vermittelt neue Erkenntnisse zur Dominanz des zweiphasigen Sequenztyps und parallelen Sequenzverlaufs sowie zur tiefen Wiederholungsquote der Erzählelemente. Die tabellarische Systematik zu den analysierten Erzählfiguren, Erzählsequenzen und Sequenzverbindungen funktioniert als hilfreiches Instrument in der Stoffentwicklung zur Diversifizierung der Erzählvariablen auf der discourse-Ebene. Der interdisziplinäre Nachweis einer strukturellen Verwandtschaft des Spannungsaufbaus mit Mustern der Selbstähnlichkeit und Skaleninvarianz in der fraktalen Geometrie eröffnet sodann eine fundamental neue, nicht-aristotelische Perspektive auf die Struktur des Erzählaufbaus.
