Where the Cologne soul lives - a journey through the Cologne southern city and a wonderful picture and text band over a primeval quarter! From 1955/1956, the legendary photographer Chargesheimer was frequently on the road in Cologne Severinstraße and the neighboring streets with his camera for several projects to capture everyday life. His recordings – many of them never published before – are testimonies of a past epoch of the post-war period and evidence of an empathetic photography turned to "little people". Eusebius Wirdeier discovered the treasure during research in the Rhenish Picture Archive and edited it for this book. Wolfgang Niedecken Growing up in the Severinsviertel, contributes private images from his family archive and tells about his childhood between Vringspooz and Nächelsjass. Photographs that Eusebius Wirdeier took between 2019 and 2023 in the southern city of Cologne lead to the present. The large-format black and white ribbon tells the story of a veedel in the heart of the city. The readable text and evocative images combine to form a valuable piece of local historiography. The band keeps memories alive, awakens emotions and makes upheaval and change recognizable. Photo stories as time travel - authentic, vibrant, touching.
