Schloss Wilhelmshöhe in Kel was built between 1786 and 1801 under Landgraf Wilhelm IX. built by the architects Simon Louis du Ry and Heinrich Christoph Jussow in clical forms. The castle served as a summer residence of the Hessian landgraves and electors. Under Elector Wilhelm II. In the 1820s, architect Johann Conrad Bromeis refitted most interiors in Empire style. At that time, the lock got its present shape by building the connecting wings. The reconstruction of the central building destroyed in 1945 led to partially violent disputes. Today the castle is the seat of the museum landscape Hessen Kel. The richly illustrated volume depicts the changeable construction and usage history of the building using numerous, partially unpublished sources.
