Bedingt durch die aktuelle Zinswende stehen Banken erneut vor bedeutenden Herausforderungen. Das historische Wachstum variabel verzinslicher Passivprodukte führt in der gegenwärtigen Zinsphase zu deutlichen Bilanzstrukturverschiebungen, welche die Bewertungsmodelle für variable Einlagen erneut erheblich beeinträchtigen. Große Volumina, die jederzeit von Kunden in Anspruch genommen bzw. gekündigt werden können, müssen richtig bewertet und im Rahmen des Zinsrisikomanagements in das Zinsänderungsrisiko aufgenommen werden und richtige Impulse für die Vertriebssteuerung liefern. Darüber hinaus stellen die variablen Einlagen für die meisten Kreditinstitute die wichtigste Quelle der Refinanzierung dar. Es ist somit eine betriebswirtschaftliche Notwendigkeit, die exakten Einflussdeterminanten des Volumens von variabel verzinslichen Produkten empirisch zu untersuchen, damit die Produkte angemessen bewertet und gesteuert werden können. Zusätzlich fordert die Aufsicht, nachvollziehbare Annahmen für Positionen mit unbestimmter Kapital- oder Zinsbindung festzulegen.
