Product Description Based on presentations given at the OST-728/NetFAM workshop, this volume explores the integrated systems of meso-meteorological and chemical transport models. Topics include on- and off-line modelling and interfaces, validation case studies, and the integration of atmospheric chemical transport models. From the Back Cover This book, as the outcome of the COST-728/NetFAM workshop, focuses on the following main topics: 1) on-line coupled meteorology-chemistry modelling with two-way feedbacks, 2) off-line coupled modelling and interfaces, 3) validation and case studies including air quality related episodes, and 4) integration of atmospheric chemical transport (ACT) models with numerical weather prediction (NWP). This book is one of the first attempts to give an overall look on such integrated meso-meteorology and chemistry modelling approach. It reviews the current situation with the on-line and off-line coupling of mesoscale meteorological and ACT models worldwide as well as discusses advantages and shortcomings, best practices, and gives recommendations for on-line and off-line coupling of NWP and ACT models, implementation strategy for different feedback mechanisms, direct and indirect effects of aerosols and advanced interfaces between both types of models. The book is oriented towards numerical weather prediction and air quality modelling communities. About the Author Alexander Baklanov, Prof. (2008), Dr. Sci. (1998), PhD (1983), MS (1979), - senior scientist at Research department of Danish Meterorological Institute and deputy director of Danish strategic research centre for Energy, Environment and Health; has more than 25 years of experience in developing numerical atmospheric dynamics and dispersion models at different (from micro- to regional) scales, modelling of atmospheric boundary layer, atmospheric acrosol dynamics and air pollution over complex terrain and urban conditions. Alexander Mahura, PhD (2002), MSC (1998), BSc (1991),-senior scientist at Research Department of the Danish Meterorological Institute; has more than 20 years of research experience in atmospheric sciences, modelling of atmospheric processes and transport of polllutants on local, regional, and global scales, risk assessment, pollen and road stretches forecasting, numerical weather prediction, statistics. Ranjeet S. Sokhi, Prof., is the Director of the Centre for Atmospheric and Instrumentation Research at the University of Hertfordshire. He also leads the Atmospheric Dynamic and Air Quality team within the centre. Over the past 25 years his research has involved the development and application of multiscale air quality and meteorology models and the use of sophisticated measurement techniques for source apportionment studies, He has been involved in and coordinated a large number of national and international projects funded by research councils, European Commission, UK Government and Industry.
