Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Musicology, , language: Italian, abstract: L'intento programmatico della Scuola di Darmstadt era quello di pervenire ad una totale determinazione del materiale musicale, realizzando una "musica pura" senza alcun legame con la scena. Ma già in 4'33'' (1952) John Cage realizza un collegamento del tutto nuovo tra attività strumentale e movimento, scrivendo un pezzo per pianoforte in cui i movimenti del pianista sono parte integrante dell'opera, perfino se da essi non si origina alcun risultato sonoro. Dunque si ha una decisa espansione dell'universo musicale: è musica non più soltanto il silenzio tra i suoni di una composizione, ma anche il silenzio che è la composizione. Specularmente, mentre fino a quel momento la scena musicale era un elemento fisso all'interno del quale lo strumentista doveva evitare ogni gesto e movimento non strettamente finalizzato alla produzione del suono musicale (bandita era dunque anche qualunque espressione del viso), negli anni '50 si scopre una nuova spazialità della musica. Ora lo spazio in cui viene eseguita o diffusa la musica, e l'uso di questo spazio da parte degli interpreti, divengono parti integranti della composizione. Del resto un uso più variegato dello spazio si imponeva da tempo anche nelle arti figurative: lo testimoniano la ricerca di una terza dimensione in pittura (ne sono esempi i Buchi e i Tagli di Lucio Fontana), l'inclusione del movimento nelle opere pittoriche (lo evidenziano alcune opere pittoriche di Giacomo Balla, come Bambina che corre sul balcone e Dinamismo di un cane al guinzaglio) e scultoree (pensiamo alle sculture cinetiche di Jean Tinguely e ai mobiles di Alexander Calder). In questi prodotti artistici l'uso attivo dello spazio per mezzo del movimento è non solo presentato nell'opera, ma anche richiesto da parte del fruitore, che può cogliere le molteplici caratteristiche dell'opera stessa solo interagendo cineticamente con lo spazio che la circonda.
