Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,3, Universität des Saarlandes (Germanistik), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit werden Dramen des Expressionismus von der Frage ausgehend betrachtet, wie sie mit den Phänomenen der Moderne umgehen. Wie stellen sie Moderne dar, wie bewerten sie sie, aber zunächst: Was ist überhaupt Moderne? Am Beginn der Untersuchung steht daher der Versuch, eine Terminologie zu entwickeln, welche die verschiedenen Aspekte der Moderne erfasst. Nach einem kurzen Überblick über die bisherige Forschung zum Thema Expressionismus und Moderne werden die untersuchten Dramen im Folgenden auf deren Darstellung und Bewertung von Moderne hin betrachtet. Im folgenden Kapitel sollen die Gegenentwürfe zur Moderne betrachtet werden, die in den Dramen präsentiert werden. Der Abschluss der Untersuchung wird von der Frage bestimmt, welche Rolle die Autoren für sich selbst sehen und welche Rolle sie in ihren Entwürfen spielen. Zusammenfassend lautet die Grundfragestellung also: Welche Konzepte von Moderne finden sich im Drama des Expressionismus? Die Grundannahme der hier vorliegenden Betrachtung lautet, dass Literatur immer auch eine Reaktion auf ihr gesellschaftliches Umfeld ist, und dass dieses Umfeld der Moderne über einen großen Zeitraum ähnliche Fragen aufwirft, die beantwortet werden wollen. Weiterhin wird angenommen, dass sich die Fragen der Menschen zur Zeit des Expressionismus zwar in ihren Ausprägungen von den Fragen der heutigen Zeit unterscheiden, sie aber die essenzielle Gemeinsamkeit haben, dass sie sich aus Phänomenen der Moderne ergeben. Wenn die Grundfragen also die gleichen sind, so lassen die Antworten, die verschiedene Zeiten auf sie gefunden haben, sichnicht zur zum Auffinden von Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden vergleichen, sondern auch zum Infragestellen oder Schärfen der eigenen Position.
