Este livro dedica-se ao resgate e ao registro de uma mídia ainda raramente estudada no Brasil, o videoclipe, e o estudo do papel do seu diretor. Ao contrário do diretor cinematográfico, o diretor de videoclipes é diversas vezes relegado a segundo plano, ou ignorado pela mídia e público, que associam a obra diretamente à banda, esquecendo de que existe um autor. Aproveitando que o Manguebeat é um movimento abrangente e que propõe a evolução através do diálogo entre a tradição e a novidade cultural, sendo, portanto, um produto híbrido tal qual o videoclipe, julgamos adequado falar do videoclipe brasileiro tendo como pano de fundo esse universo. Para isso, selecionamos o trabalho de dois diretores: Raul Machado e Gringo Cardia, realizados dentro desse movimento e confrontamos a perspectiva de cada um deles através do olhar que retrataram em seus videoclipes Manguetown (Gringo Cardia - 1996) e Maracatu Atômico (Raul Machado - 1996). Este livro emprega uma linguagem objetiva e didática, e apresenta um método de análise próprio, visando especialmente os estudantes de graduação, visto que há grande carência de material em língua portuguesa a respeito deste tema.
