Beim Kommunizieren verwenden Menschen miteinander eine Sprache, mit der sie ihre Gefühle ausdrücken können. In der Kommunikation kommen jedoch manchmal Missverständnisse vor, welche die Beziehung von InteraktantInnen stören können. Wenn das der Fall ist, muss man um Entschuldigung bitten. Dabei ist es das Ziel, die gute Beziehung immer aufrechterhalten zu können. Der Gegenstand dieser Untersuchung war die umfassende Beschreibung von Formen und Funktionen des Sprechaktes des Sich-Entschuldigens im Deutschen und im Indonesischen. Diese Untersuchung zeigt, dass man beispielsweise in der schweizerischen Kultur sein Bedauern meist zeigt, indem man beim Sich-Entschuldigen die Bedauernausdrücke wie „Tut mir leid“ bzw. „Es tut mir leid“ sehr häufig verwendet. Gleichzeitig mit den expliziten Entschuldigungen verwendet man im Kulturkreis der Deutschschweiz auch die adverbialen Wörter, wie „aufrichtig“, „wahnsinnig“, ,,sehr“, „furchtbar“, „herzlich“ etc. Hingegen verwendet man im indonesischen Kulturkreis beim Sich-Entschuldigen die Wörter „maaf“ oder „mohon maaf“ als explizite Entschuldigungen. Im Vergleich zu den deutschsprachigen Schweizern fügen Indonesier ihren expliziten Entschuldigungen sehr selten adverbiale Wörter hinzu.
