Im wirtschaftlichen Geschehen kommt dem Technologietransfer die Aufgabe zu, technologisches Wissen aus öffentlichen oder privaten F&E-Einrichtungen in erfolgreiche Anwendungen zu bringen. In Deutschland wird dieser Transfer von innovativen Technologien aus der Wissensbasis nicht zufriedenstellend geleistet. Daher steht vor allem der Technologietransfer von Hochschulen im Mittelpunkt des Interesses und im Fokus dieser Arbeit. Als einen Ansatz zur Verbesserung des Technologietransfers stellen die Autoren die Idee einer logischen und notwendigen Verknüpfung des Technologietransfers mit dem Innovationsprozess in den Mittelpunkt. Letzterer ist in diesem Zusammenhang als Kooperation zwischen Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft zu verstehen. Vorab werden dazu verschiedene in der Literatur vorhandene Innovationsprozessmodelle diskutiert und hinsichtlich ihrer Anwendbarkeit im Transferkontext evaluiert. Darauf aufbauend, entwerfen die Autoren ein standardisiertes und idealtypisches Referenzmodell. Anschließend wird der Fokus auf die zentrale Schnittstelle des inter-organisationalen Innovationsprozesses, den Technologietransfer, gerichtet.
