This aspect of women's lives is apparent in both Toni Morrison's novels: Sula and Love, Mariama Ba's So Long a Letter, and Sefi Atta's Everything Good Will Come. Despite the different geographical settings, all these novels link the failure of female friendship to patriarchal institutions that interfere with women's relationships and break them down. The book shows the healing power of female friendship that helps women recover from the destructive force of patriarchy. Female bonding helps these female characters face racial prejudice, polygamy, war, political instability, and the contraints of tradition. About the Author Born in Senegal, Dr. Kadidia Sy earned a Fulbright grant to pursue her education. She got a Ph.D degree in English from Georgia State University. Her areas of interest are African and African American literatures. She currently teaches English at Waycross College.
