Transformationspolitik ist Ende der 80er Jahre zum Leitmotiv der Forschungen im Bereich der Wirtschaftswissenschaften geworden. Die Staaten Osteuropas versuchen seitdem den Weg von der Zentralverwaltungs- in die Marktwirtschaft zu finden. Eine wichtige Rolle bei der Umgestaltung der Wirtschaftsordnung spielt die Transformation des Außenhandelssystems. Besonderer Wert wird dabei auf «Timing» und «Sequencing» der Reformschritte sowie auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Außenhandels- und Wachstumspolitik gelegt. Diese Arbeit stellt die entstandenen theoretischen Ansätze dar, vergleicht sie miteinander und erforscht ihre Vor- und Nachteile am Beispiel der georgischen Transformationsgeschichte zwischen 1990 und 2001.
